Trees for Our Future

Trees for Our Future is a project to engage and educate families, communities, and organizations. Together, we will anchor our work in communities that face pressure from rapid development and tree loss.

Project Goals

The overall goals of the project, which will launch in the spring of 2026, are to:

  • Raise awareness of and promote action for Seattle’s tree canopy
  • Strengthen family and community bonds across generations
  • Help people connect with nature in the city
  • Make the future better for those to come

We Will:

  • Develop hands-on materials to teach young children and their families about urban trees, including:
    • A two-week early childhood education curriculum that includes outdoor time with trees
    • Online learning materials for families and caregivers to use with young children
  • Involve early childhood educators and community members as we develop, test, and share these materials
  • Focus on neighborhoods affected by environmental and tree canopy inequities
  • Make trainings and community gatherings accessible physically, culturally, and by language
  • Train educators and guide families and communities to use the curriculum and materials
